As an occupational health nurse, the sky is the limit as far as how much you can earn, since some nurses run their own independent occupational health consulting firms. On average, occupational health nurses make $66,513 annually. In addition to working in a consultant role, after you have experience in this field, you can also go on to work as an educator or even work in research. Many occupational health nurses come to this field from other related industries such as medical manufacturing or insurance. If you work in a leadership position in this field, your can expect to earn an average of $75,000 or even more in some cases.

Educational Requirements

Most employers require their occupational health nurses to not only be registered RNs, but also to earn at least a bachelor’s degree in nursing. The top positions in this field require a master’s degree, which will allow you to better tailor your education to the field of occupational health. Your classes will focus on topics like risk assessment, healthcare law, informatics, education, and public health.
